Bureau of Consumer Credit Protection oversees many aspects of the consumer finance industry, including non-bank mortgage lenders, debt collectors, loan brokers, retail creditors, money transmitters, credit reporting agencies and non-bank ATMs.

CPSC is charged with protecting the public from unreasonable risks of injury or death associated with the use of the thousands of types of consumer products. Site includes press releases for all CPSC recalls (back to 1979), information for businesses regarding Consumer Product Safety Act and other issues, information in Spanish, children's safety games, and information on fireworks safety. There are links to the Web sites of other federal agencies that have responsibilities for products not under the jurisdiction of the CPSC.

The Federal Trade Commission works to prevent fraudulent, deceptive and unfair business practices in the marketplace and to provide information to help consumers spot, stop and avoid them.

We work to give consumers the information they need to understand the terms of their agreements with financial companies. We supervise banks, credit unions, and other financial companies, and we enforce federal consumer financial laws. Our mission is to make markets for consumer financial products and services work for Americans — whether they are applying for a mortgage, choosing among credit cards, or using any number of other consumer financial products.
