The Research Process: Articles

A step-by-step guide to conducting research for your project

Articles

Magazine and journal articles usually cover recent information, studies on specific topics, trade information, and opinions.

Use articles:

  • to find up-to-date information about current events
  • to find information or opinions about popular culture
  • to find out what's been studied on your topic
  • to find bibliographies that point to other relevant research

REMEMBER: When you are searching for articles in YCCC's Articles and Research Databases you ARE NOT searching the web.  Rather you are searching a huge collection of journals, magazines, and newspapers purchased by YCCC Library and made available through its website.

Tips from the Librarians

  • As you browse articles be on the lookout for additional words or subjects that describe your topic, they may be searchable!

Scholarly vs Popular

Your instructor may want you to use scholarly or peer-reviewed journals rather than popular magazines for your assignments.  Here's are some tips to help you tell the difference.
