Science tutoring FAQ

Science tutoring FAQ:

Q: What is open lab tutoring?

A: Any science student that might need lab access is welcome to drop in during open lab hours! Open labs are dry labs (for example, no dissection, no putting together an experiment for chemistry). Tutoring for animal science specifically is unavailable at this time, but if an animal science student would like access to the lab for some reason, they are still welcome to pop in. If a student needs further clarification on dry labs they can email yszimmer@yccc.edu with questions.

Q: Do I need to/can I make an appointment?

A: You do not need to make an appointment for dry lab access. However, we do encourage you to contact Sue Zimmer to ask about science tutoring appointments. Drop-in tutoring may be available during the times listed but to ensure you can meet with a science tutor please reach out for an appointment.

Q: How long is a tutoring appointment?

A: Tutoring appointments are up to one hour long each. Students may book a maximum of two appointments per week. If you would like more help, please stop by the Student Success Commons to see if Sue has any additional drop-in availability.

Q: What if I can't come to campus for drop-in tutoring?

A: We want to offer support to as many students as possible, whether they're on campus or off. If you're looking for remote science support please email Sue Zimmer between 9:00am Monday and 12:00pm Friday for any current options. (Please allow up to 48 hours for a reply.)

Q: What science classes do you tutor?

A: Science tutoring at the Student Success Commons is available for:

• General Biology
• Human Anatomy and Physiology I
• Human Anatomy and Physiology II
