Accommodation Inquiries and Requests

Students can disclose their disability to the Office for Student Disability Services at any time while enrolled at York County Community College, from the time they submit their application to any point throughout the semester.  It is each student's responsibility to contact the Office for Student Disability Services, as soon as possible, to arrange for reasonable accommodations.

If you are not already registered, please email or call Danielle Ebbrecht to schedule an appointment via phone or Zoom to discuss your accommodations needs.  Please be prepared to provide the following:

  • Full Name
  • Student ID number (if known)
  • Date of Birth
  • Best way to contact you
  • A description of your identified disability and how it impacts (or you anticipate it will impact) your access to courses/schoolwork
  • What accommodations you are requesting

You may also complete and submit the Accommodations Request/Inquiry Form and our office will contact you to schedule a phone or Zoom meeting.

Note: Documentation is required to support accommodation needs.  Documentation submitted for review should be from a licensed clinical professional or health provider who is trained and qualified to evaluate the disability and who is familiar with the student's history and current needs.

Documentation should include:

  • Name, credentials and contact information of the evaluator/provider
  • Diagnostic criteria, testing results, symptoms
  • A description of how the disability impacts student’s ability to access learning, programs and activities at YCCC

Examples of documentation:

  • Neuropsychological/Psychoeducational testing and report
  • Statement from psychiatrist, nurse practitioner, physician, physical therapist, occupational therapist speech therapist or other qualified clinical professional involved in student's care
  • IEP or 504 plan from High School

If you wish to request accommodations, please:

  1. Complete and submit the Accommodations Request/Inquiry Form.
  2. Provide documentation.
  3. Work with the Coordinator for Student Disability Services to design appropriate and reasonable accommodations

Accommodations will be considered on a case-by-case basis, taking into account course requirements and the nature and severity of the disability.

Please note: Accommodations are not retroactive and can take up to two weeks to process; they will begin only after a student has completed the steps necessary for approval.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is the Office for Student Disability Services still open?

While the physical office is NOT open, the office will be operating remotely, which means we are still here to support you!  Please contact the office via E-mail disabilityservices@yccc.edu or leave a voice message at (207)216-4323.  Support and accommodations meetings can occur through E-mail, or via phone and/or Zoom appointments.

Q: What happens now that exams are on-line?  Can I still get extended time?

While online instruction is in place, the Testing Center will not be open. Instructors are able to adjust the time for your test to provide you with your extended time accommodation. Please communicate with your instructors, prior to an exam, to discuss your exam accommodations in their courses.

  • Some instructors may opt for alternative assessments (e.g. essays, untimed exams) which would not require exam accommodations.

  • If your instructor is creating online timed exams, please notify your instructor, prior to any exams, if you will need extended time.

Q: What college resources are available to assist me in transitioning to online instruction?

In addition to your faculty and the Office for Student Disability Services, the Student Success Commons will continue to provide tutoring and support remotely.

Q: As classes transition to on-line/remote learning, I anticipate barriers and would like to request new or additional accommodations.  What do I do?

If you are already registered with the Office for Student Disability Services, please send an E-mail or call Danielle Ebbrecht, Director of the Student Success Commons, to schedule an appointment via phone or Zoom to discuss your need for additional accommodations.
